Jasón, marido de Medea, la ha repudiado y está a punto de casarse con la joven hija de Creonte, el rey de Corinto. Este, al temer su venganza, destierra a Medea de Corinto. Esta simula aceptar su destierro y tan solo pide un día para poder despedirse de todos. Regala un vestido a la hija del rey Creonte que, al ponérselo, se le adhiere a la piel y le causa una horrible muerte. Luego Medea mata a los dos hijos que tuvo con Jasón y huye en el carro de Helios a Atenas.
